The UC Boxing Club is a student run club sport at the University of Cincinnati and is open to all UC students. The team was started in 2011 by UC students who had previously competed on the Cincinnati High School Boxing Team. The team trains at Cincinnati Fitness & Boxing, located less than 2 miles from the University of Cincinnati main campus (see map below) and is coached by the CABC coaches.
The college boxing season runs primarily from October through March. During the season, select team members are able to compete in National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) boxing shows and tournaments. The UC Boxing Club was the #2 ranked collegiate men’s boxing team in the country in the 2024-2025 season and has had multiple boxers win individual NCBA National Championships (Nathan Todd in 2019, John Laughlin in 2022 & 2023, Payton Woodruff in 2025 & Anthony DiAngelo in 2025). Since 2018 UC boxers have competed locally in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Oxford and traveled across the U.S. fighting multiple times in New York City, Seattle, Nevada, Penn State, California, Charlotte and traveled internationally to Ireland.
In 2019 6 members of the UC Boxing Club competed in the NCBA National Tournament in Reno, Nevada with freshman Nathan Todd winning the 147lb NCBA National Championship with wins over Army, Air Force and Navy on successive days. In both 2022 and 2023 John Laughlin won the 132lb NCBA National Championship in Charlotte, NC. In 2025 the UC Boxing Club had our biggest ever team with 9 boxers competing in the NCBA National Tournament in Lawrenceburg, IN. The UC men’s team finished as the #2 ranked collegiate boxing team in the nation behind only the U.S. Naval Academy. This was the first time in 10 years that any non-military academy had finished in the top 3 in the country. UC had two individual NCBA National Championships (Freshman Payton Woodruff at 119lbs and Sophomore Anthony DiAngelo at 156lbs) as well as one Runner-up (Freshman Michael Dempsey at 185lbs). In addition, Miami University boxer Danny Gomez, who trains with the UC team, won the 125lb National Championship.
